Reflection #2 – July 17

Another month has come to an end and this one felt much easier to get done with than the last.

Looking back at my last resolutions, I can gladly say that I fulfilled my own expectations and even found time to do a fourth piece somewhere in between.
I focused mostly on scenery and landscape and struggled with mountainsides, stones, water and how to put a character in perspective. It was fun though, as I still learn about krita’s brushes and features to apply on my work. Though I have also learned that it is heavily time consuming…

Crossing Worlds 4.1 - Two Stainless Sides by Souvillaine

 my work for

:iconshizamewrath:

needed two weeks to be done even though it is not very complicated, I believe I need to take my planning more seriously and scribble more before I get to colour all out.
Still; working this out was fun and coming back to my Crossing World story is a welcome variety for my writing exercises. I like my new Character Limos Mouth – who I think deserves a character sheet for himself and maybe even a ‘Questions with…’ part in my gallery.
The idea for him came up first nearly 11 months ago, when I was on a not so enjoyable vacation in Greece… well, at least I was productive in some way.

Azara - An Incanticle for a Warrior by Souvillaine

With my first picture as the promised art trade, also with Shiz’, I had a very confident rush on how it turned out in the end. I like the stormy weather on the horizon, the contrast overall and the way I portrayed his character Azara sitting on a mountain with her sword drawn and her hair floating in the wind. If I had more practise in drawing stones in perspective, this wouldn’t have taken so long to make (8 days – a wild guess).

In between of the drawing process of the first and the latter I showed, I found some nice inspiration from a little, confusing dream.
The product of this dream was how Hushabye met my character Cynemar for the first time.

Cynism for the Neverland by Souvillaine

It was done in a single session with some dark, metal music to begin with and the Dark Knight movies and Cloverfield to accompany. I just had this Idea of him crawling out of a pile of bloody skin. I really like this texture of blood that actually was more some kind of accident than a confident stroke with a pattern. I see the flaws from my rushed and more spontaneous work though and should add more thinking to my sketching. But people seem to like it more than my other works, I might head more into the surreal and gory section of my art… perhaps.

The last piece I did this month was another art trade with my fellow sergal

Eternal Exchange: Varrendels Stay at the Neverland by Souvillaine

A rather colourful and warm atmosphere in comparison to my other ‘doings’ of this month. The sketching and inking took me one session and the colouring, shading and editing another.
So this picture was made in only 2 days with the entirety of the first two seasons of Game of Thrones that I watched along. The written part, however… was one of the worst experiences I ad in a long time.
I don’t even know how this happened, but I worked 3 days on the story alone and didn’t come to do anything else for some reason. Not that it was specifically long or complex or much to think out… it was more a excessive blockade that I could only hardly overcome.
Luckily I could make it somewhat enjoyable for the reader and add more details to the Neverland and its characters there.

So for the month of August…
I can gladly announce that I find myself in a 6-week-long vacation!
This means I will relax a lot, come to play games, do sports activities to stay in form, write on my book more and do a lot of drawing exercises; poses, proper sketching, anatomy and maybe even painting.
It will end in a one week trip to the north coast of Germany (I figured the hot temperatures of the south are too much for me). The last time i went to the same region was two years ago and I remember that I was not only having a great time with great food, but also had a lot of inspiration there and found more encouragement in drawing than usual. I hope this time will be similar enjoyable.

I also plan to draw two new characters of the Neverland;
one is the owner of the establishment you can see up there
the other jumped into my head two days ago, while I was lying in bed with my earplugs plugged in, listening to melancholic music. One song really inspired me, let’s see where this turns out.

Until the next month, see you!
