Reflection #18 – March + April 19

Hello everyone!

 It’s time for another monthly reflection, after one month of pause and it is not hard to say a lot happened during those months. At the moment, I’m not in the best mood but I want to spend this evening with wrapping up those two months and starting March with a fresh point of view. I think that sounds reasonable.

 So first, the biggest and obvious happening in April was my written exams and they were quite okay, I guess. How well I performed is yet out for speculation but at least they were not horrible and I’d have a fair chance to pass them. Other events were the very recent (15. April) fire of Notre Dame’s tower which I just couldn’t believe at the time. Yet another shocking event (26. March) the decision of EU’s new copyright principle which nobody has full knowledge of how exactly the changes to the guidelines will be executed or even executable; a big big question mark for ever member of the EU to use the Internet in about two years when they will come into effect.

 But that was it for the bad news for now if I didn’t leave anything out. As for me, I got green light to resettle my living to another home by the end of this school year to settle things from there. I got the new Metro game and it is awesome, I already had plenty of time invested in its beautiful immersive world and my first favourite Band Rammstein released a new single in almost 8 years and the new album will be released soon. My interest in vegetarian and almost vegan food has grown from some delicious new recipes I tried out that involve a lot of Mexican ingredients. And more stuff that I have forgotten already and am too lazy to try to remember now. Let’s get to artwork

Absinthe – Le Genette [Character Design]

 My most and only ambitious project last month was this here; a character design of the beautiful genet. From the first time I wrote down this species on my to do list, I knew she must be somehow related to Souvillaine’s world, the rest came naturally. Let me explain: I started from deciding that she was French, genette simply sounds quite French to me, then I connected her species to a believable background, I wanted her to originate from Africa and migrate to Europe. Having the idea of a barkeeper in mind, I added absinthe to her, a typically French served liquor that has already been portrayed in my gallery before. To bring her to Souvillaine, she must have died somewhere somehow, which is why I decided to make her part of the French resistance during the uprising of the third reich, the lorraine crosses on her chest and earring are a reference to this. The rest was simply squeezing things in position to work with the neverland. Maybe there will be more of her.

Enyi – The Happy Hyena Girl [Raffle Prize]

 This is obviously the first of the four raffle prizes and the only fullbody portrait at that. I decided since a feral was not elaborate enough, to add in a scene and because I wished to draw the savanna before. This definitely was a lot of fun to work with, can’t say it enough. From the sketch to the render, it was enjoyable… a little bit tricky with the contrast of her den and some secondary lighting, the the shadows… but in the end I am happy and proud about it.

Upcoming stuff & preplanning

I frankly have a lot to do now. I am not able to dedicate all my free time to drawing again due to school taking its toll again but I will try to keep a weekly uploading rate, just don’t take my word for it. Three more raffle prizes, at least one personal piece and a bunch of people asked me about a commission lately so I’ll see what all I can produce this month.

 I have seen this guys art over time and for a while now, I wondered if I should watch his art. Only this month I came to the conclusion: of course I should! Not only are his icons very well designed and I should probably learn from him, he always achieves a good way to portray his characters and figures with various but modern designs. Check him out if you want, you really got nothing to lose.

 Seriously, what do you think about hearing this name? It’s probably not at all what this amazing anthro artist has to offer. I won’t spoil anything, go see it yourself, I assure you will be impressed.
