Reflection #25 – November 19

Hello there!

I had a lot going on this month. I think it was the busiest one since my movement. The thing is, I finally started to sell my old stuff to get some space here and it is taking a lot of time still and there’s even more ahead of me. The current schedule I worked out gets things done slowly while I’m having time to work on my projects but there isn’t any left to properly check on deviantart hence my lack of interaction  lately. I want to apologize for this but at the same time, I don’t plan to do anything about it until I haven’t reached a good point where I could say I slow down on my old stuff and add in some social time for this site. We’ll see…

And only due to my daily schedule, I was still able to produce three pieces this month and would have been able to do a fourth one wasn’t it for some personal matters. Anyway, here are a few sentences to the projects I worked on:

Artworks

Axel’s Apartment

Axel's Apartment by Souvillaine

I already know what will be on my to do list for 2020: More experiments. Because I feel like I’m shying away from doing something that might as well profit my style and my way of depiction. If I did that, I think I would feel more secure with the way I establish those scenes and figures. Drawing Axel’s apartment turned out to be much more difficult than anticipated as I could never decide what his apartment should look like. I thought of my own room a lot which made this look a tad too ‘present’ than I wanted but in the end, it turned out to be a simply but believable representation of his lifestyle and that was my main goal throughout.

Benevolence [Gift]

Secondly, there was the only piece with a specific deadline this month. The birthday present for my mate Dragclan with very simplistic background that saved me a lot of working hours. I don’t much remember my progress much only that I had a lot of issues with the composition (again) as too many ideas resulted to be unfitting. I decided to go with the half-body perspective and eliminated the contrast through the second body by having the Sergal kinda bending over a ledge or a wall, greeting his friend as he’s walking by :3 Sadly, I don’t have much more to say about this from the making-perspective – which is odd.

Charlie Zwingly – Spacetime [Prize]

And lastly, there’s the first of the contest prizes. November was actually meant to get all of them done but the second prize winner somehow hasn’t replied to my note yet and the third made the icon optional and up to me to do something in his name. Anyway, working on this one was a nice time. I don’t get to do aliens often and rendering a more humane face was certainly a welcome change for me to remind myself that I’m not a 100% Anthro artist…

Upcoming Stuff & Preplanning

As I said, there wasn’t much time this month but I’m still glad I could work on those on a regular basis with some delays here and there. December definitely won’t look much different. My initial thought was to work out some of the requests I got while not getting too carried away with that. There was a character I wanted to introduce or rather re-introduce but I still don’t really know what physical traits would add up to his stature. And lastly, there is a fully disconnected idea which should work nicely and i think that’s the next best thing to do now.

An upcoming Christmas special isn’t planned but I honestly didn’t think much about it ’til this point so it isn’t out of the way yet.

Artist Shoutout

 Stanwuuz:

More on the freakier side… this artist combines comical proportioned animals in a more realistic rendering and shines through effective scenic lighting that feels slightly off-putting but fascinating at the same time. Not often do I see a style like this and through great execution, Stanwuuz deservedly takes a place here in my shoutouts.

 Mellowcollie:

Another Swede, unintentionally, makes the list this month and I can’t state enough how much I like him on the list. The contents of most of his works are grounded, the colouring is executed wonderfully and there’s a certain tone of seriousness halling back when looking at them… for me at least.

Anything regarding my new year’s resolutions will be spoken about at the end of December… ooor the start of January, depending how busy I’ll be at that time. There’s still some things I need to make up my mind about… Oh but leave the thoughtful process to me.
