Reflection #24 – October 19

Hey, I wonder why September – septem = 7 and October – octo = 8 aren’t considered the 7th, and 8th month of the year… accordingly we should start with February, right?

 Anyway,

Glad you came back for this month’s reflection. October was quite an eventful month for me.

Last reflection I foreshadowed that I would need a thing to count my days and take note of my mood shifts I was suffering from last time. Well I haven’t quite managed to get a physical calendar yet but I’d like to tell you abut the app I used to do a little bit of daily reflection each day.

The app I used the whole month is called daylio with which you basically track how you felt each day and can add some activities that you did to remember each day better. If this is to basic, you can also write notes each day to describe your day. I’ll try to continue using it and explore it to its full potential. but now for some art…

Artworks

Lilith – Guardian of the Sea [Gift]

Now looking at the last two months of artworks, I realize how dull and lifeless they felt. Unintentionally, I achieved quite the opposite this month with strong, lively colours in spite of its thematic context. Starting with this birthday present for Saiyonara10 which had started roughly at the last three days of November. Originally, I wanted this to be a shower scene but… I don’t know what happened honestly, I guess this one was much easier to portray and I wasn’t in need of a reference photo for the pose. I could start this very freely with just a bare minimum of vision to fire it off. The result is a lovely summer time artwork which – at least for me – expresses some very appreciated warmth in the colder-getting days.

Vaal Hazak – Lord of Death [Fanart]

My first Fanart since January was this; the mood which has been set through Iceborne, a very extensive DLC for one of my favourite games Monster Hunter World in which this monstrosity awaits. Vaal Hazak has always fascinated me due to its uniqueness even in something that is as rich of variety as Monster Hunter. Perhaps this could have been uploaded next month as well as this… but the spooky vibes just made me wanna do this now.

Also a huge thanks again to VarisArt for suggesting this background idea to me. I think I wouldn’t like it as much as I do if I went with my original idea. Take this as proof to always reach out for feedback if you’re not so sure about your options.

Vampires [Halloween Special]

In many ways, this is a special piece of mine. For one; it was the first one I had a damn tight deadline for and I tell you, if the initial sketch wouldn’t have worked out, this would not have happened. My urge to finish a piece for Halloween was simply too strong to lay down and prepare for the next artwork. 3 days, was the time I had for this and I spent half of it for sketching and clean-up alone, the rest was definitely more intense with me feeling the deadline coming closer. But I am glad I didn’t finish it too early and took my time with refining this. Only due to this decision, the lovely carving on Souvillaine’s neck entered my mind, making this one a thousand times better for me :3 My love for vampires definitely got satisfied with this artwork and while it’s a reminder to better manage my timed resources, it is a special piece in my gallery.

Upcoming Stuff & Preplanning

My goals for October have been more than fulfilled. I don’t expect November to have as much as 5 artworks. The closest artwork in the making is Axel’s apartment, of which a good sketch will be presented in a few days and executed in a simpler, more experimental style which hopefully will be useful in the FUTURE. The rest of November might be dedicated to the contest winner prizes and eventually, an anniversary fanart like last year? I’m not sure, but it could probably delay things.

Anyway, there’s another idea that I had for a few weeks now, that I hope to work on because I think it’s hilarious ^v^

Artist Shoutout

 SilentDeathFootsteps

This artist has caught my attention through very effective storytelling through ambience, expression and scenery. But there’s also a nice collection of character showcases in their gallery.

 VIND

If you’re into traditional Japanese flair but with anthros and like the colour pink, I can only highly recommend to check this galley out as you’ll find plenty detailed works you like there.

 Amenlona

Kate’s artwork managed to blow me away a dozen of times before. Only now I came to finally accept the fact that I ought to give her a watch and this shoutout. Her great skill in rendering bright lit characters and scenes lets you gaze as your screen. Only on rare occasions to I feel drawn to so very colourful artworks, so I know you definitely can as well.

Does November have anything special on account?

 Anyway, see you then!

Sincerely,

 Souvillaine
