Reflection #13 – September 18

Hello there!

I welcome you to this month’s reflection. That month that I have mistaken to be October already 12 times!

For me, the final year of ‘just school’ has started. I’ll do my A-level exam in April and I got a lot of learnin’ to do. But instead, I will keep doing the things I value the most in life; doing my hobbies. Let’s see if I can wake up soon enough to not fail the class and see the gun to my face by neglecting my drawings. Eh. Let’s just not worry about that too much, shall we?

Fact is, despite the quite stressful start into school routine with a couple of workless days, I found myself to be quite productive, actually. I managed to finish 5 projects and two of them features more than one character and one of which is featuring 9 characters and a quite vivid environment but I’ll come to that later.

I’ll try to keep this pace up for the future, it will certainly prove itself useful once I got a few more projects to get done with. And they keep comin’, they keep comin’!

Especially now that I have made a commission information sheet, I have to carefully place my plans and projects.

Since I really can’t find anything else to talk about right now, let’s head over to a couple of artworks that I picked to reflect on.

Artwork

Worried

Worried [Gift, Collab] by Souvillaine

What started as a very early birthday gift for Wolfpro2014, and a slight homage to my favourite futuristic inspiration: Blade Runner, soon turned into a freakishly funny collaboration. Since this background seemed so empty, I figured it would be much harder to design every character in it and still seem filled with variety. I made a quick journal and was surprised how many actually wanted their character to be featured in there for free. I easily filled the background with them and could make a few people happy about this piece. And I brought my old blue birb Tobias back, so that’s nice ^v^

The Sisters of Mercy (not really related)

The Sisters of Mercy (not really related) [Trade] by Souvillaine

With the last project finished, I found myself very attracted to one character in particular. It’s the hyena in the centre of the background that inspired me to draw hyenas again! I can’t say it enough marcioo9, I love your character Yvette! From her tattoos over her scorched arms, the yellow Mohawk over to her Slavic character. I just wanted to draw this character with my own hyena Zavi, being cool together. So I negotiated an Art trade to see how he imagines them hanging out with each other and the result was no less awesome! Go check it out, if you haven’t already! If this was the last time I’ll draw her? God, I hope not!

I wasn’t even satisfied with hyenas after that. I went on drawing a piece of Zavi’s childhood that was finished in only two days, a record for me, if I may add.

Axel Kondo – Street Fighter

Axel Kondo - Street Fighter by Souvillaine

To conclude that month, I was going to work off a species from my to do list: the fire salamander. The pose just jumped in my head as well as the though of making him a fist fighter. I’m very happy how the design turned out. It’s simple, dynamic and hits hard >:3

I can’t deny that my recent attraction to hard metal tracks has influenced the mood and topic of my artworks to some extend.

Upcoming Work & Pre-planning

The soonest project I will be working on is a little birthday gift for Saiyonara10 That I hope will be able to finish in time, although that I don’t doubt it.

And of course, the big question this year will be what I will do as a Halloween special… I have really no clue what it will be, whether it will be serious or goofy, bloody or clean. Maybe I can do something skeletonous… meh, we’ll see.

Shoutout

If you didn’t know, this is where I honour all the wonderful artists I found this month. Don’t hesitate to check their profiles out!

 SiNotLent

A very good reason to be on the lookout for some underappreciated artists is how wonderful it can be to stumble upon a real treasure. SoNotLent has a great talent for wonderful environment and scenic painting. And even though a painting might appear smudgy, she proves to show great detail and density when it comes to more complicated artworks.

Keep it up, gal, you’re doing great!

 dinoPharaoh

Tjasa Arh (with a ` over the ‘s’, or a mirrored ^, or… h- how do you do that ‘s’ thing?! I don’t even know what to look up for that!) does wonderful anthro works, both painterly and cel-shaded. But above all, I love her ‘Room’ – series, basically a cluster of cool characters in one place trying to interact with one another. Oh and her openness to metal!

 Shinyfurry

Now… I know how it must sound like with all the praise I throw around, like I didn’t care. But this artist here… those artworks… I mean, just look it up, it doens’t matter what I am saying here anymore…

 Just watch that guy already…

And that’s it for this month’s reflection…
See you at the end of October,

 ~Souvie
