Hello hello hello!
I welcome you to July’s Monthly Reflection! This one went rather hectic in terms of artwork and time pressure. The first two weeks were spent on finishing the new design of my persona Souvillaine. I actually interrupted the design phase after having finished the wait wait wait… I come to that later. But yes, my month here has been quite hectic. It started off with some personal issues that hare hopefully moved aside to focus on more life-friendly thoughts. I love being happy and I could scream it out loud that this is my life goal… never, ever to be depressed again.
Anyway, back to the projects: I had to finish two pieces before my trip to Rome would start and end with a severely annoying sunburn and a hell lack of sleep. It took a while to find back to my daily routine and I just lost it again, hehe ![]()
The fact is, even after I have managed to finish my new and beautiful look, I will be gone for another week. Me and my father are going to a one week camping trip to Wacken where we’ll do some sightseeing and swimming and grillin’ and HEADBANGING! Hahaha! Seriously, I’m looking forward to this for longer than a whole year now. We’re not just hoping it will be great, we’ll do whatever we can to make this trip superly enjoyable! I’ll see if I will do another Journal entry like I did with Rome, it all depends on how my photos will look like and what’s there to tell. Who knows, maybe even a Wacken-related artwork. Apropos artwork…

This one was a pleasurable birthday gift for my dear friend and in the pizza mood I was for the incoming trip to Rome, I wanted to include some pizza destroying…
It was quite delightful to practice my new shading method on this one, although people afterwards pointed out that the image has a few mistakes on it that I gladly acknowledge. After all, that’s what feedback is for… I’m trying to do better in the future.
Mood Carribean – Souvillaine [Redesign]

And this is the result of my boringness. What a great one at that! Not only had I great fun doing this portrait of me, it even looks fantastic! Seriously, I am very proud how this one turned out in the end and that, in consideration that it almost never happened… During me design sessions and studies, I simply grew bored of the same old, same old. So I quickly decided to do a portrait and quickly finish it before I’d go to Rome so you could see at least some of my progress. Well, in the future, I’ll listen to my mind saying: ‘I want to do something else now’ – more often and hopefully that will result in more of such fantastic imagery…
Souvillaine – Bearded Vulture [Reference Sheet]

And here it is, finally. The redesigned character reference sheet I worked so hard on to finish and finish in time. I like it, overall… but I’m not a friend of these plain colours. But a character sheet has gotta look how a character sheet has gotta look and you don’t want to shade in a character sheet. Hmpf. The real struggle was that I didn’t know how to properly do one in the first place… The only one I did in the past was the one of Kaviir and that was just SO TIME-CONSUMING! I definitely need some more experience with character sheets… and maybe won’t make them as complicated as those two to properly enjoy their process.
Upcoming Work & Planning
My time is very booked after the return of my Wacken camping trip with my father. I have a commission for a friend I wanna do simultaneously to my other projects. And this commission will not be uploaded to Deviantart or probably any other website as well.
The other artworks I have in the planning for August are one waist-up portrait of Zavi, my menthol-addicted hyena that will not look as pretty as you are used of her. I also have some plans of a gender-swap of my sona, which was requested for a friend that I am already excited for. Then, there’s some other plans I have with him, planning on a post WW1 setting. And my last plan for a project will be a birthday present for my dear who wanted to have me make a new icon for her :3
Artist Shoutout
If you didn’t know, this is where I honour all the wonderful artists I found this month. Don’t hesitate to check their profiles out!
This artist has caught my eye before. As I stumbled upon Squid’s work again, I was astonished by the very detailed, creative and in-perspective his drawn busts of anthro characters were looking.
Especially the fantastic use of light and contrast can convince everyone of a very solid imagery. I would only love to see some more colour in the future :3
Temiree, pronounced Tim-er-ee, is an artist that I found very recently on my lookout for some reference sheets I could take as inspiration for my own. I couldn’t find what I’m looking for in his gallery, but what Tim (do you mind if I call you Tim, Timmy?) so greatly introduced to me was the portrayal of very confident-looking anthro characters that he does for his commissioners. I must say, I haven’t seen any more expressive characters in this variety yet. I am following you with great interest and probably gotta commission you sometime if I’m desperately trying to give my characters some expressions myself…
And did I mention that he does great scenic pictures as well? Just… adding that by the way…
Now this one is a considerably young artist, I met a few weeks ago. Appears like he’s just a month here, but I still gotta give you a shoutout here, because your paintings have really caught my interest to see how you develop in the future. They are so beautifully constructed and purely organized, the lighting fits the mood every time and is overall consistent, the characters show life and greatly detailed anatomy. Keep it up, pal!
And that’s it for this month’s reflection…
See you at the end of August,
~Souvie
