Good day to all of you and I welcome you to yet another monthly reflection, this time; May, the month of love… to whoever believes that…
Yes it’s time for me to give you my thoughts on the previous month. Usually I say how fast the time flew by, well, not this time. May actually happened quite slow and wouldn’t want to go. That’s probably because the first three weeks were heavily dedicated to a huge mass of critical class test in school and now, in my holidays, I still have a pile of class tests I have the privilege to look forward to.
But enough of this tedious time-wasting business! Now it’s time for the art related stuff!
I am happy to announce that there won’t be any ‘older’ artworks from the time of my absence no more. But I am rather not happy to say that I couldn’t be as productive as I hoped I’d be in my holidays. That’s due to some slightly depressive phases, that luckily have worn off for good, I won’t go to detail because that would belong to the personal stuff I am almost sure you wouldn’t care about anyway.
So I won’t be able to separate much here and therefore just talk about the things I’d like to talk about this time.
Artwork
Safiya – The Kulu Ya Ku

Starting off with a piece that has been finished a month ago… yay? A character who appears in a new lore me and my bud Coven (eifle79) should be working on, perhaps. I always enjoyed the lonesome caravans in the hot orange desert following the idea of them travelling through this dangerous terrain to seek out mysteries. In Safiya’s case though, they’re rather running from the mystery but that doesn’t hold me up not to solve it anyway.
I’m looking forward to drawing more of her story, I believe there’s a lot of quality potential for future environment paintings and creature designs.
Mable seeking the Light

This is probably the one this month I am most proud of… and it got boobies in there, which is quasi a bonus point. Even though it had a humble start, the more I moved to the refinement part, the better it looked. And in the end I am happy I carried on with it, it is an exceptional artwork of mine and that’s the kind of variety I sought out I believe. And the one thing that makes me even more happy is the fact that I still have found a use for this adorable and poorly misunderstood moth.
The Invention of Unisex Toilets

There it is… and honestly that’s the one I struggled with the most. It turned out better than that action piece of Kaviir I did way before. But here… I actually struggled to even upload it. I am not proud of it… but I still want to give you my thoughts on it.
So it all started out with a joke. The simplicity of the female anatomy of a hyena put in a toilet joke to reflect a little on society with my crude and partially cynical humour. First problem that came up was how to portray the scene and, believe me or not, a whole session was spent with how to get this right. Then I came to the conclusion that the whole thing is useless because I made no use of potential focal points, there originally used to be a secondary character reacting to the scene… completely trashed that idea. So I went on with this instead: simple full body portrayal in between cabin. The scene was done, the pose looked really cool and like I wanted. Linework finished, then flat colours and then… the whole project fell down… or rather I did. For some reason I couldn’t get to work, I wasn’t focused anymore, session after session with barely any progress. I squeezed two more projects in there afterwards, the commission for gundamfan2 and my bust for Blade, a close friend of mine… Then I guess I came back for some final tweaks and desperately tried to get the lighting on Zavi’s head right… *sigh* well here it is anyway, I guess it’s not that bad after all, but it is a clear sign of rethinking my shading method a bit.
Upcoming Work & Planning
I currently have one project in the making, an art trade with the dear that will probably need some rethinking in terms of shading…
The two other plans I have in stock for now are quite major to be honest…
One of which being a proper commission sheet. Since it’s getting quite serious once someone offers to pay you for your work, you wanna make a good, no, a professional impression and that’s why I’m taking my time with considering things… whether it is a pictorial deviation or made in journal form, what I’ll be out to offer, which examples I want to use, the terms of conduct and I have an idea for a potential questionnaire to fill out and send me… maybe.
The second project is regarding my sona, Souvillaine. I finally want to put out a reference sheet with all the little details you need to know about it / me. The thing is; I do not intend to look like a regular bearded vulture… as cool as they already look, I want to have a more unique look, you know what I mean. So I gotta design every part of its face, starting off with the right head form, plan out how what pattern would look and how the different structures will work together. That’s quite the difficult task… and important as well! I gotta find something I am completely happy with, it needs to be fun to draw and look simple enough to be drawn by others as well. That’s why it will probably take longer than anything else I did before so I will do it simultaneously to other projects, maybe smaller ones like portraits or artwork of previously featured characters.
oh, that’s quite a lot to consider… anyway, let’s go on with my honourable shoutout!
Shoutout
As explained the month before, this is where I honour all the wonderful artists I found this month. Don’t hesitate to check their profiles out!
This fantastic anthro-artist has some incredible sense for scenery and for he often has some dark, suburban theme, he hit me right in the hart with his artworks.
From my neighbour country Poland comes someone who’s art you can see was made with joy. The indication of movement of the poses he draws his characters in simply is fluid and seemingly unstoppable. Not only this, he also stuns me with his character design of his fursona Baltazar. Honestly, check it out: The time has come…
This particular artist is prove that you don’t need a bunch of nice looking artworks to impress me, you simply need a few awesome ones!
Even though this artist here does not have many finished artworks but with them who he has, he definitely fired the shot. I have rarely seen someone who does painterly rendering as well as plaguedaemon… You, I adore you!
And that’s it for this month’s reflection…
See you at the end of June,
Souvie
