Reflection #37 – December + January 21

Hello and Welcome!

I hope you have arrived in the new year. It still feels strange to talk about it but I think everyone is anticipating the time when things are getting back to normal.

For now, let’s look back at the past two months.

December began with my admission exam and yesterday, I sent off the last letter to make my matriculation official; a document that determines how my next 3 and a half years will look like. To say I wasn’t excited would be an understatement but for now, I have another month to really get ready for it and start a new chapter in my life after this strange pause that was last year.

Anyway, after the stressful and work-heavy week was over, I allowed myself to take some time off and relax, always in the back of my head what could be a nice Christmas celebration.

With what little time I had left, it sounded awfully stressful to do as many gifts as possible, but I did feel that it was appropriate to give my dear supporters something in return :3

December Gifts Altogether

Sadly, with so little time on my hands, I had to make some shortcomings, which is why the quality of these gifts isn’t up to my standards, yet I hope to you, it has been a pleasant surprise ^v^

Now to the start of the new Year 2021…

My resolution to create a routine for the time in my Social Media absence has sadly been utterly shattered 6v9 The first couple of weeks have been quite stressful and full of work for me, so I couldn’t focus on getting up, drawing and studying for the day. At the very least I reserved playing video games to only the weekends so I could be at least a little productive.

My sketches are mostly about posing, some anatomy and shading exercises. I knew I had to finish a birthday present for a dear friend of mine though…

This artwork did take up some busy evenings, but it was fun to do it in most regards and the outcome is pretty appealing to me at least.

The main focus on colours is still establishing a clear colour theme and I’ve never tried gold before (I think). The subtle primary and secondary colours complement the accents very nicely. I have to keep that in mind for future pieces.

But I do have to think over working with my messy sketch brush, I’ve been caught up polishing every line way too much to be enjoying the start of this project and likewise at the final stretch of refinement.

I guess I should finally get to do a second layer for the refined linework.

Winged Devil

Anyway, working on this project has been so much fun, that I wanted to do another one but with solid lines this time. It would take a while after I had done a sketch that I liked enough to turn it into a little side project. The goal here was to get a little more into painting and somewhere I succeeded mainly with the addition of features like the spikes on his arms, legs and shoulders but also by merging all the figure layers and doing the shading in one go instead of in sections. I think doing this merged touch-up really helps with the polishing in the end but I wouldn’t say I’d be comfortable doing this step earlier in the working process.

Also what’s up with me doing scary horror art in January? >v>

Forecasting the next month won’t be easy. I’ve got a lot of stuff to do still. I have to prepare to move after all.

My break from Social Media will be held up without a clear deadline to it. Considering the eventful time, it’s best that I have a clear mind on my way ahead and don’t have to manage comments and deviations. While I have plans for more projects, I can’t say if things will be done this month, as I really should focus on getting some sort of daily worksheet to follow and improve my drawing.

For now, I let this be it.

I do wish you a very nice month of February and enjoy the rest of your weekend :3
